Mathieu Foubert started his cello studies when he was seven years old. As a student of Philippe Bary at the XXI Arrondissement Conservatory, he won an award from the Ville de Paris in 2004. He continued his studies with Helene Dautry at the National Conservatory in Lille and with Isabelle Veyrier at the National Music School of Creteil. He was later admitted into the class of François Guye at the Geneva Conservatory where he received, in 2009, his Teaching Diploma and his Soloist Diploma.

Mathieu has taken part in master classes with Emmanuelle Bertrand, Roland Pidoux, Jérôme Pernoo, Anne Gastinel, Miklos Perenyi and chamber music lessons with Jean-Pierre Sabouret, Jean Mouillère, Jean-Jacques Balet and Gabor Takacs-Nagy.

Mathieu has performed Max Bruch’s ‘Kol Nidrei’, Shostakovitch 1rst Cello Concerto and various Vivaldi Cello Concertos with orchestra. He has worked with composers such as Nicolas Bacri, Michael Jarrell and Eric Tanguy, and with conductors such as Charles Dutoit, Jean-Pierre Wallez, Gabor Takacs, Daniel Harding, Valery Gergiev and Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos. Recently he has recorded for Pan Classics a CD, ‘Viola Concertos & Verklärte Nacht’, with violist Nobuko Imai. He has also taken part in a CD/DVD produced by EMI Classics, ‘Cinema’, with violinist Laurent Korcia.

Principal Cellist of the Lochen European Chamber Orchestra between 2008 and 2010, Mathieu has played with the Camerata Bellerive conducted by Gabor Takacs and has been a membre of the Verbier Festival Orchestra from 2010 to 2012. He is playing now in the Sinfonietta de Lausanne Orchestra and ahs played with the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra.
